OnePlus made a big announcement over their Software. OnePlus revealed their future Software support details, Software Policy, and integration with ColorOS.

We all know OnePlus is now officially a part of OPPO and they work together for their support, devices, R&D. Now oneplus is integrating their OxygenOS with ColorOS, OnePlus today officially announced all these in a Forum Post on OnePlus Community.

OnePlus is working to integrate the Codebase of OxygenOS with ColorOS. OnePlus says by integrating OxygenOS Codebase with ColorOS will improve efficiency and standardize the software experience across their portfolio.

Further, they said “This is a change that you will likely not even notice since it’s happening behind the scenes. We now have a larger and even more capable team of developers, more advanced R&D resources, and a more streamlined development process all coming together to improve the OxygenOS experience.

There’s no change for OxygenOS for Global Market as OxygenOS remains the OS for global OnePlus users. This change will apply to new devices in the future and for existing devices, the change will occur with Android 12 based OxygenOS.

Along with this OnePlus also announced their Software support for their devices. All Flagship devices will now get 3 Major OS updates and OnePlus has categorized their devices into three segments, Flagship devices, Nord Lineup, and Nord N Series

OnePlus Flagship devices: OnePlus 8 series and newer devices including the latest Oneplus 9 series and upcoming flagship smartphones from OnePlus will receive 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.

OnePlus Nord / Nord CE: The first OnePlus Nord, the latest Nord CE, and all the future devices under Nord Lineup will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.

OnePlus Nord N series: Starting from N10 and N100, all N series devices will receive 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.

We need to see how this Integration with OnePlus will help OxygenOS and how better OxygenOS will be in the future or OnePlus deviating from their principles only time will say.

Looking at the Current ColorOS, ColorOS looks very Clean and Minimal. It has improved a lot over the past few years and it’s really interesting to see how does this goes as OnePlus is known for its Software Experience. Hope it won’t lose its basics.
