Dizo Watch R review: Just misses a clean hit

Dizo started the year with a kick-starting launch of Dizo Watch R. It’s the Company’s premium smartwatch and also the first smartwatch from dizo in 2022.

Dizo is the partnered brand of realme and comes under the realme TechLife eco-system. Ever since its launch, Dizo has been focused on AIOT products and launched many AIOT products in India. Starting with the package the smartwatch gets a premium package from the company and it comes in a black-colored retail box that looks premium.

Inside the box, you get the Dizo Watch R along with the usual manual, warranty card, and a magnetic charging cable.

Display and design

Dizo Watch R Display
Always-On-Display

Coming to the highlighting point of the device is its display. Dizo watch R features a 1.3-inches circular AMOLED display with a metallic frame. The display comes with 150+ watch faces support and has five pre-available watch faces within the watch.

Though there are 150+ watch faces you can create a customized watch face as per your needs on the app. But you can’t use black and white Images as watch faces which is sad.

There are also fine bezels around the display but you wouldn’t notice them when you use a darker watch face.

The AMOLED Display comes with Always On Display (AOD) support. Although it has AOD support but no customization options whatsoever. There is no option for even scheduled AOD.

The watch has good viewing angles and also good outdoor visibility. The display is also very bright and it can go as bright as 550nits. Even under direct sunlight, there are no issues with visibility.

The smartwatch has a very slim form factor. Having an Amoled Display helps it to achieve its slim design. Great job Dizo and probably it is the slimmest in the segment.

It comes with 22mm replaceable silicone straps. The quality of these straps is really good are very much comfortable and has a good matte finish. As it comes with the replaceable straps you can get any third-party watch straps.

Here are some you could check out

User interface

The smartwatch comes with a simple and friendly user interface. When you swipe right you will get the control center. Swiping left from the homescreen will take you to activity tracking, heart rate, sleep, and weather forecast. When you swipe up from the homescreen it will take you to the main menu and you find different menus you can also change the menu style from settings.

There are three menu styles available.

  1. Minimalistic style
  2. List style
  3. Smart style

The Watch UI feels smooth and it’s very minimal. Scrolling through the watch is very good and didn’t notice any lags or stutter. The lag-free experience gives a plus point in using the watch.

Health tracking

Dizo Watch R comes with the SPO2, 24/7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, women’s menstruation cycle, steps tracking, etc.

In my usage heart rate monitoring and SPO2 tracking results seem accurate with a difference of just 1-2 units as compared to Oximeter. These help in this hard time of the pandemic but don’t rely on it for medical checks.

The good thing about Dizo is the sleep tracking on their watches is very accurate. Even in my testing of Dizo Watch 2, Sleep tracking was also on point.

Connectivity, and other smart features

The watch comes with the Bluetooth V5.1 for a better connectivity range and faster connection. Using Bluetooth connectivity on your smartphone you can receive SMS and third-party app notifications.

For the smartwatch, you get a companion app from Dizo called Dizo App. You can use it to pair your smartphone with the watch and customize it using the Dizo app.

Not only that using it you can control music and take pictures right from your wrist on the watch.

The smartwatch also has 110+ Sports modes like Cricket, running, indoor run, walking, swimming, weight training, yoga, Indoor cycling, etc. There are two buttons on the right side of the watch and the first one is a power button and the second one is a dedicated one for sports mode.

On Dizo Watch R you can now directly set alarms straight from your watch. It has 5ATM water resistance using it under rain and for showers, swimming shouldn’t be an issue.

You will also receive call notifications but you can either be silent/disconnect the call, can’t answer it. And also the watch displays weather forecast and find your phone when connected to your smartphones.

Dizo Watch R Battery

Looking into the battery of the smartwatch. It packs a 280mah battery with a magnetic charger in the box.

In my usage, the device lasted 7-8 days with 24/7 heart rate monitoring, call notification, etc. While AOD was turned on the device lasted for 1.5-2 days. The battery life may vary based on your usage and will not last till 10-12 days as claimed by Dizo. The magnetic charging cable is really poor. So you need to use it carefully and sometimes it doesn’t even charge the watch due to loose connection.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Great Display.

Good Design and Build.

Activity tracking accuracy.

More options and features.

Availability of more watch Faces and sports modes.

Cons:

Average battery life (on AOD).

No Flashlight option (Lack of flashlight option to use the display as Flashlight).

No GPS tracking support (Using mobile).

Slow watch face sync and no support for monochrome images as a Custom watch face.

Poor magnetic charging cable.

Verdict:

Dizo Watch R is undoubtedly the best smartwatch in the segment with a great display, reliable activity tracking, and other smart features. If you are looking for a smartwatch under Rs. 4000 for daily activity tracking and smart features Dizo Watch R covers it all. Right now there aren’t any smartwatches at this segment to beat it making it the smartwatch to beat. Our take is, Dizo Watch R is the great smartwatch in this segment with some cons.

Due to some battery issues and some units getting dead after receiving them as per the reports. Dizo Watch R is currently unlisted from Flipkart and might get re-listed once the brand solves the issue.

Once the device gets relisted on Flipkart, you can go and grab it at Rs. 3,999. At that price, it is a great choice with AMOLED Display, AOD, and decent battery life.
